Don't Panic:

The science fair is a great chance for grown ups and kids to experiment, learn and have fun together. It is the journey that you take and the adventures that you have on the way that are important. And if you make mistakes, that's the best way to learn.

chemistryWelcome to the Parkmead Elementary School, Family Science Fair website. This site will give you some ideas for projects and help you understand how to perform an experiment. If you get stuck, have a suggestion, want some help, or want to help out, please email us at parkmeadscience@gmail.com. Thanks and Good Luck.

New This Year

Remember, the Science Committee has made online registration available!

This year's Science Fair's theme: Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies.
Although it’s not mandatory, we’re encouraging students and their parents to consider a project based on the theme.

Seeking Scientist Volunteers--Amateurs Welcome!
We've lined up a few of these demonstrations already, but we’d like more. If you know something about some aspect of science and could bring or do something interesting, please consider volunteering. Or if you have scientist friends who could help out, please consider asking them. To explore this further or get more info, contact Bruce Jacobsen.

What you need to do:

Step 1: Read About the Different Project Types

Learn about the different kinds of project by clicking on the “Project Types” link at the left, and think about which you would like to do. If you’re considering doing an experiment, click on the "Scientific Method" link to understand the steps involved in performing a scientific experiment.

Step 2: Choose a Project

We have a list of ideas for K through 3rd Grade and for 4th through 6th Grade to get you started thinking about an idea. The Science Buddies website has a long list of possible projects, as well as a "topic selection wizard" to help you choose a subject area that's interesting to you. Make sure you read the safety advice too.

Step 3: Fill in the Registration Form

Please register here or in the Science Room by February 16 so we can ensure that your project is in the Science Fair Program and have a Certificate for you on the night of the Fair. We will deliver a Poster Board to you in your classroom or you can collect one from the science teacher, Mrs. Judy Burton.

Step 4: Do your project and present it

Prepare a poster board describing your project.

Volunteer Help Needed

We are seeking Parent Volunteers for Science Fair Night. This year the student projects will be displayed in several classrooms and the library. We’d like to have an adult volunteer in each room to help supervise. If you can take a half-hour shift in the room in which your child's project is displayed, please indicate that on the registration form or contact Bruce Jacobsen at bjacobsen@astound.net.

We also need volunteers at the end of the evening (8:00-8:30) to move the projects from the classrooms to the Multi-Use Room. Please also sign up on the registration form or contact Bruce if you can help out with that. Thanks!

Poster Boards

Science teacher Mrs. Judy Burton will deliver the boards to the classrooms of students who have registered. If you’d like yours sooner, please contact Mrs. Burton at JBurton@wcsd.k12.ca.us.

If you have questions feel free to contact Bruce Jacobsen, Science Fair Chair, at bjacobsen@astound.net.
